Sunday School Sessions are back at The Black Box. Level up your music production skills by attending one of these courses!

FEBRUARY 26TH
INSTRUCTOR: KIAL
CLASS TOPIC: EQ
DESCRIPTION: Kial will cover how to use EQ in the mix to reduce frequency masking, and present a clearer vision of your creative intent to the listener. He will teach how EQ uses phase, different filter types and when to implement them, and some basic definitions of parameters and what they do. Additionally, he will cover how to see/hear clashing sounds in a mix, and how to use EQ to create a sense of depth and for sound design.

MARCH 12TH
INSTRUCTOR: KIAL
CLASS TOPIC: COMPRESSION & DYNAMIC PROCESSING
DESCRIPTION: Kial will cover compression and go over all of the functions of a standard compressor. Students will leave this course with an understanding of the differences between a limiter, gate, and compressor. They will know exactly how ratio, threshold, attack and release times affect gain reduction. Furthermore, Kial will explore why certain settings work on certain sounds, which types of sounds in the mix benefit the most from compression, and how attack and release are related to tempo. If there is time, he will also want to cover side-chain compression, parallel compression, and gating.

MARCH 26TH
INSTRUCTOR: KIAL
CLASS TOPIC: AUX TRACKS
DESCRIPTION: In this session Kial will cover the many uses and implementations of auxiliary tracks. Students will leave this session with an understanding of how to build sub-mixes with group processing, and why they help the mix. Kial will also cover parallel processing, and why certain FX such as reverb and delay work much better as sends, rather than inserts. If there is time, Kial will dive into some more advanced parallel processing techniques that are critical to sound system music: parallel compression, widening, and parallel distortion.
